Overview
Have you ever wondered: “What if my SAC report could be presented in the form of a short video with all the key metrics at a glance?” Well, that is precisely what this 2025 QRC 1 update has introduced to SAC users. In this blog, I will introduce the concept of creating a Video Data Story from charts as a story viewer and how you can download the video as a file to your laptop/desktop.
Introduction
Video Data Story is a customized short video of a story based on charts that have this feature turned on. You can select charts to be included, export the data to a video format (720×1280), and download the videos.
Prerequisites
As a developer, you need to enable “Video Data Story” in the SAC story so that it’s available in view mode. As a viewer, you need to have the read permission for the story.
To enable Video Data Story, in the Story, go to Edit. In the toolbar menu under File, click on the Wrench icon dropdown and select “Story Details.” In the popup that opens, scroll down on the right-hand side and enable the toggle button.
Now, you can enable or disable video data story for specific charts. To do this for a chart, select the chart widget and go to Styling panel, under the Quick Menus section, select/deselect the checkbox beside Video Data Story.
You can also show/hide Video Data Story in the view time toolbar.
Note: By default, Video Data Story is enabled for all supported charts.
Procedure
In the SAC Story, go into View mode, select a chart, and click on the Ellipses (3 dots) -> More Options -> Video Data Story -> Add to Video Data Story.
The Video Data Story panel opens at the bottom of the screen and displays the charts included. Here You can remove a chart from the Video Data Story Panel.
In the Video Data Story panel, there are a few options available as a user where you can save the Video Data Story to a folder of your choice and edit it as many times as you want. Whenever there are changes in the Story, you can share this with other users, configure settings which include Orientation, a Title, Background picture, Background music, and a Logo, and Sync the Video Data Story with the Original Story.
You can now Preview the Video Data Story in the same tab by clicking on the Play button, or you can also open it in a new tab by selecting Open in View Mode.
When the Video opens in a new tab, you can Unmute the video and Download the video to your local Desktop/Laptop to circulate within your team.
You will get a popup on the screen letting you know that the Video is being downloaded in the background.
Click on “Download Video” to save it on your local machine.
Result
You have now created a Video Data Story based on the charts selected.
