Overview
You can now convert Classic Stories and Analytic Applications to Optimized Stories as an SAP Analytics Cloud story designer. This enables you to use features that are exclusive to the Optimized Story Experience.
Introduction
SAP Analytics Cloud now has a dedicated section called Story Conversion, wherein you can migrate Classic Stories and Analytic Applications to the new Optimized Story Experience. The conversion status is captured in the log.
Prerequisites
You should have Developer access to Edit/convert Classic Stories or Analytic Applications to the Optimized Story Experience.
Procedure
Go to Stories from the Menu options and select Story Conversion.
Note: Only Classic Stories and Analytic Applications will be shown in the list.
Select the Story(s)/App you want to convert and click on the Convert to Optimized Story button.
A popup screen with Conversion Check will run to see if the Story(s)/App can be converted successfully.
There are 3 status that can appear when trying to convert the Story/App:
- Ready to Convert: The story or analytic application can be converted without any changes.
- Feature Limitation: Some features used are not yet supported in Optimized mode. Click on the Info icon, the unsupported features are listed. You have 3 options to choose from:
- You can modify the Analytic Application to remove the unsupported features before converting it.
- You can also migrate the Analytic Application without modification and fix it once the Analytic Application is open.
- You can choose not to migrate the Analytic Application until a later date.
- Blocked: The Analytic Application cannot be migrated. Some features used are not supported in Optimized mode and feature support is not planned in the future.
Select the items you want to convert, and then select Next.
In the next screen, you have 2 options:
- Save converted Stories as Copies: Choose where to save the Optimized Stories. You can either save it in the same Folder as the Original Stories or choose another Folder. The original Stories will remain in the Folder.
- Overwrite Classic Stories: The new Optimized Stories will replace the original Stories. Once the Analytic Applications are optimized, they can’t be converted back to the original format.
Select the option you want and click Next.
The conversion will begin. This may take a few minutes to run depending on the number of items you selected. Once the conversion is complete, the status of the conversion will be listed.
You have the option to download a copy of the summary in Excel by clicking on the Icon highlighted above.
The spreadsheet contains the following columns: Name, Description, Owner, Changed On, and Status.
Click on Done.
You can also convert Analytic Applications by opening the Analytic Application, clicking on the Save button dropdown, and then clicking on Convert to Optimized Design Experience.
In the popup that appears, you will find some useful information regarding the conversion. You can directly click on Convert and this will convert the Analytic Application to the Optimized Design Story.
You also have the option to select Convert + Save As. With this option, you can save another copy of the Story with another name while retaining the Original Analytic Application. Give a name and click on Save.
Result
You have now converted Classic Stories or Analytic Applications to the Optimized Story Experience.
